Obituary of Anne B. Benson
Anne B. Benson, 97, of Morris Plains passed away on February 22, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Anne resided in Naperville, IL before moving to Morris Plains 57 years ago.
Anne graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a 5-year Nursing degree in 1946. She worked as an R.N. and eventually became Head Nurse of the I.C.U. Cardiovascular Unit at All Souls Hospital, Morristown. She then went into Teaching.
In her 70s, she came out of retirement and worked as the Office Nurse at Kemper Insurance in Summit, where she also organized blood drives.
Volunteering was a big part of Anne’s life – She volunteered for various organizations for over 50 years.
She was a very active parishioner of St. Virgil’s Church, Morris Plains. She ran “Prime Time” Senior Citizens Group, and sang in the choir, where she lead the Christmas Community Singing. Also, in her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross, and the Morris Area Blood Program.
Anne is survived by her devoted children, Peter Benson, of Morris Plains, and Kathleen Benson, and her husband, Tom Ford, of Klamath Falls, OR. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren, Blue Favreau (husband Brian), Amber Abbondanzo, Heather Benson, Melanie Benson, Gabrielle Benson, Juliana Benson, and Philip Benson; as well as eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Calvin (2018); and her dear children, Michael, Philip, and Christine.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4-7pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. (*Guests are respectfully requested to wear masks while indoors.) A Memorial Mass for Anne will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment of ashes will be private.
