Obituary of Mary W. Montgomery
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary W. Montgomery (née Wolsky), 90, of Newton, New Jersey, previously of Morris Plains, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at Brightview Nursing Home, Randolph.
Born in Morristown, Mary grew up in Bernards Township and built a home with her husband and young family in Morris Plains, where they resided for 50 years. Mary lived in Newton, with her son and his wife, for the past few years.
Mary graduated from Bernards High School in 1949. Before her retirement, Mary was the Secretary at St. Virgil's Church for 25 years. To say Mary was involved with St. Virgil's was an understatement.
Mary was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Virgil's and volunteer at Morris View Nursing Home. Mary was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Morris Plains Fire Department for many years. Mary enjoyed gardening and flowers, but birdwatching was her favorite. She could often be found doing needlepoint and enjoying time with her family.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Patricia Stires and her husband, Kim, Deborah Beam, Richard Montgomery and his wife, Marel, and Thomas Montgomery and his wife, Lori, adoring grandchildren, Kim Stires, Jr. and his wife, Caitlin, Rachel Tombari and her husband, Greg, Sam Stires and his wife, Meg, Scott Stires and his wife, Bryanna, Amanda Rose Tufts and her husband, A.J., Richard Montgomery, Corey Montgomery, and Emma Beam. She is also survived by her cherished great-grandchildren, Camila and Leon Tombari, Avery Stires, Claire and Sullivan Tufts, caring siblings, Robert Wolsky and his wife, Betty, and Alice Wolsky, and a host of many special nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Montgomery (2005), son-in-law, Peter Beam, and siblings, John Wolsky, Dorothy Horsburgh, and Helen Hunter.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 10 am, at St. Virgil's Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to St. Virgil's Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, New Jersey 07950.
