Obituary of Madeline Mary Joyce

Madeline Mary Joyce, 99.5, of Madison, New Jersey, passed away after a brief illness at Morristown Medical Center.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Madeline moved to Berkeley Heights, New Jersey with her young family, then retired to Surfside, South Carolina with her husband, where she lived for 35 years. Madeline moved to Madison to be close to family 5 years ago.

Madeline graduated from Southside High School in Newark in 1940. Before her retirement, Madeline was a Telephone Operator with New Jersey Bell. 

Madeline was a member of the Surfside United Methodist Church, a member of the Elks Lodge #2797 and Moose Lodge #2351, of South Carolina. She was also a member of the Racoon Run Golf Course in Myrtle Beach and the Surfside Bowling League.

Madeline is survived by her devoted children, Nancy Luts and her husband, Jack, and James Joyce and his wife, Kathy, cherished grandchildren, John Thomas Luts and Diana Joy Anastasio, and adoring great-grandson, Ian.

Madeline was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry E. Joyce, Jr. (2004).

One of the last members of the Greatest Generation. She was 99 years 7 months, and 9 days in age, but never old.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 4 pm - 8 pm. A Service will take place during visitation from 6:30 pm - 7 pm. Masks are required for all guests regardless of vaccination status. Madeline will be interred at Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway, South Carolina.
