Obituary of Lisa M Detlet-Young
Lisa Marie Detlet-Young
August 20, 1960 - June 7, 2022
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, “Amma”, and friend.
Lisa Marie Detlet-Young was born in Jersey City on August 20th, 1960, to Mary Jane and Kenneth Detlet Sr. She is the oldest of five children: her sister Janice, and her brothers Kenneth Jr., Michael, and Matthew. Lisa found the greatest joy in retelling her childhood stories with her cherished siblings, each story filled with love and laughter. Lisa married her beloved husband and best friend, Bruce Young, on November 23rd, 1985. She traveled the world with Bruce, and together they raised three headstrong and rambunctious daughters, who brought her endless joy, frustration, and laughter. They also provided countless sleepless nights, though she somehow never lost her happy disposition or patience.
Lisa devoted her life to her family and friends, cherishing the precious moments with her loved ones and passing down the Detlet family's stories to her children, grandchild, nieces, and nephews. There was nothing she wanted more than to be a mother and to be surrounded by family. She absolutely fulfilled her dream and immediately set her sights on becoming a grandmother. She poured her heart and soul into being an "Amma" and once again succeeded. The bond she and her granddaughter, Charlotte, shared was rare. She spent her days playing "makeover," reading stories, playing games, giving the best hugs, and so much more. She is forever remembered as Charlotte's Superhero Amma.
On June 7th, 2022, Lisa went home to God peacefully at the age of 61, surrounded by those she held most dear to her heart. She lived a life surrounded by love, her family, and friends. Lisa not only became a hero to her family, but a hero to others, donating her organs to save the lives of others. She left this world doing one last act of kindness. Lisa is survived by her three loving daughters, Lara, Meghan, and Bridget; her granddaughter, Charlotte, whom Lisa adored; her mother, Mary Jane Detlet (English); her siblings, Janice Mulligan and husband John, Kenneth Jr. and wife Janet, Michael and wife Annie, Matthew and wife Nicole; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is reunited with her father, Kenneth Detlet Sr., her grandparents, and her beloved dog, Charley, who are happily welcoming her home.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 4-8pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison. A Funeral Mass for Lisa will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Madison.
