Obituary of Arline E. Vogel

Arline E. Vogel, Teacher and Mother Arline Baker Vogel, 92, of New Providence, N.J. passed away peacefully in her home the afternoon of April 15, 2017 with family members and caretaker close by her side. Arline was born in Uxbridge, Mass to Arnold and Silda (Krull) Baker on October 30, 1924. Her grandparents immigrated from Holland and operated/owned the Baker Clover Hill Farm in Whitinsville for many years. Arline attended Whitinsville Christian School, Uxbridge High School and graduated from Calvin College, MI earning a BA1947 in Education. She worked in teaching throughout her life in both grade and church schools. She had five siblings and was predeceased by brothers Stuart, Richard (Bud), and sisters Cornelia (Kelly), Gertrude and Mabel. She married Howard William Vogel on December 27, 1950. Howard was a WW2 Naval veteran serving aboard USS Gosper APA170, after the war graduated from Guilmant Music School, and spent much of his career in service of Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, NJ. The two enjoyed a grand 25th wedding anniversary in the Calvary Parish House. They travelled extensively during summer breaks. Howard passed away on July 28, 1994 and was commemorated for his service to the church. Arline is survived by her two sons, Bruce (married Susan Chapman) and Bob (married Lynn Keefer), and four grandchildren Bryce, Wesley, Eric and Jessica. A celebration of her life will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, NJ on Saturday April 22, 2017 at 4 pm. A private interment will be held at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Calvary Church, Calvin College, Whitinsville Christian School, or a similar charity of your choice.
