Obituary of William Robert Callahan

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William ("Bill") Callahan of Morris Plains, NJ passed away on June 27, 2022.

Bill was born on February 2, 1951 in Morristown, NJ and moved to Morris Plains, NJ after starting a family with his wife, Anne I. Callahan where he resided for 39 years.  Bill graduated from Morristown High School in 1969 and then enlisted in the Army National Guard of NJ where he served from 1970-1976.

Upon graduation from high school, he began his service technician career with New Jersey Bell and then retired from Avaya in 2003 with 34 years of service.

Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed reading historical texts specifically about the Civil War and discussing his historical knowledge of Morristown, NJ and the plethora of random knowledge he knew.

Once he retired, he volunteered at the American Legion Post 59 in Morristown, NJ. Every Sunday he would be seen cheering on his Jets in his green and white jersey and his favorite hat.  His family will always remember him standing at the kitchen counter and looking out the window while doing his many crossword puzzles from the Daily Record Sunday paper or the many books his children gave to him throughout the years.

Bill survived by his wife Anne Callahan (Claffey), his children Stephanie Marcario (Jason), William J. Callahan, Shana Cascio (Michael), and his grandchildren Dominic, Anthony, Greyson, and Charlee.

The viewing will take place at Dangler Funeral Home in Morris Plains, NJ on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 5-8 pm.  The funeral will take place at Saint Virgil’s Church in Morris Plains, New Jersey on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
