Obituary of Robert L. Barnes

Robert L. Barnes, 87, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on August 07, 2022 at Fellowship Village, Basking Ridge, NJ. He was born on August 1, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY. He lived in Lewiston, NY, prior to moving to Parsippany (Randolph) where he was a long-time resident.

Robert graduated from Lewiston-Porter Central High School in 1953. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hamilton College, Clinton, NY in 1957 where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Society, the College Choir and was manager of the swim team. He went on to receive his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry in 1960 and 1963 respectively from Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. He was a member of the Phi Lambda Upsilon and National Honorary Chemistry Fraternity. He was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University from 1963 to 1965.

He held positions at Case Consulting Laboratories, the Foster D. Snell Division of Booz Allen and Hamilton, the United States Testing Company and the Kearfott Division of Singer General Precision Equipment Corporation. He worked as Director of Worldwide Technical Services at Bristol Myers Squibb, New Brunswick until his retirement in 1998.

Robert was a member of the American Chemical Society, the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Quality Control Association, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also served as an Elder of the Presbyterian Church, Morristown, NJ.

He is survived by his dear sister, Lynette Hey, Stanley, NY as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara of 44 years, in 2011.

A graveside service and entombment will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00 am at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ. Arrangements were under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Inc., Morris Plains.
