Obituary of Charles O. Schwarz, Jr.

Charles Otto Schwarz Jr (Charlie) was born on November 9th, 1928 in Morristown, New Jersey.  Charlie lived at 46 Burnham Road in Morris Township for most of his life.  He spent his later years at the Cedar Crest Community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey where he enjoyed many endearing friendships.

He served his country from 1951 to 1953 in the US Army National Guard in the 695th Field Artillery as a Sergeant, stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Charlie met his wife Ruby Fern Lawson during a “blind date” while he was serving at Fort Knox.  This date lead to a lifelong loving relationship and a sixty-four-year marriage. Charlie was a loving father to three children, Claudia Whetstine (deceased), Charles O. Schwarz III (Chuck) of Ghent, New York and JoHannah Dadoly of Princeton, New Jersey.

The Chas O. Schwarz Trucking company was founded in 1928 by Charlies’ father.  Charlie took over the business in 1958. The green “Chas O.” dump trucks serviced northern New Jersey for over six decades.  Charlie, his father and their crew of drivers supported the construction and maintenance of many highways, airports, corporate office parks and residential developments of New Jersey.

Charlie served as a volunteer fireman and lifetime member of the Fairchild Fire Company in Morris Township, reaching the rank of Captain during his tenure. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Cincinnati #2 and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Morris County #2 as a Grand Tall Cedar and treasurer.
 
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Ruby.  He will be greatly missed by his children, extended family and friends.
 
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm on Friday May 5th at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ.  A service will be conducted as part of the visitation starting at 7:15pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
