Obituary of Louis M. Gaburo
Louis Michael (“Lou”) Gaburo of Madison, New Jersey passed away on December 15, 2022 at the age of 82. After several months of declining health, Lou passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Patricia at his side.
Lou was born in Somerville, New Jersey on May 12, 1940, to father Albert B. Gaburo and mother Pasqualina (“Lena”) S. Gaburo. The oldest of two children, Lou spent a happy childhood and found lifelong friends in the Italian American community of Raritan, which always occupied a place close to his heart.
Lou graduated from High School in 1958 and was the catcher for the Somerville High School Pioneer baseball team. Lou was a pioneer in other ways, being the first member of his extended family to attend and graduate from college. Lou blazed a trail of learning, accomplishment and giving back that are a legacy to those who knew and loved him.
Following high school, Lou married his high school sweetheart Patricia and graduated from Pennsylvania State University. As Lou’s career advanced, he continued to pursue his love of learning, garnering a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry from Rutgers University and an MBA from Farleigh-Dickinson University.
Lou always found time to give back. As a scouting leader and a Little League baseball coach, Lou always kept his family at the center of his life. After retiring from a successful career in the pharmaceutical field, Lou continued to give back to his community, leveraging his business acumen as a counselor to fledgling businesses at NJIT’s start up incubator, as an ESL tutor and as a member of Madison’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Lou faithfully cheered for the New York Yankees, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Washington Commanders. He loved (and was loved by) dogs of all sorts and will be greatly missed by his West Highland Terrier, Dazee.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Patricia Galpin Gaburo, his sister Louise (Richard) Jarrett, his children Maureen (Kevin) Sorensen and Michael (Sally) Gaburo, his grandchildren Annie (Matt) Gaburo-Condit, Julia Gaburo and Sara Katherine Gaburo and a great granddaughter Lucy Gaburo-Condit.
A visitation for Lou will be held at Burroughs Kohr & Dangler funeral home at 106 Main St. in Madison New Jersey from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, December 23, 2022. All are invited to attend. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
People wishing to honor Lou’s life and memory can make donations in his name to Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 29 Prospect St. Madison NJ 07940 or to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, 575 Woodland Ave, Madison NJ 07940.
