Obituary of Terrence Hull
Terrence “Terry” Hull, 67, passed away on March 31, 2023, at Hackensack University Medical Center following an extended battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born September 3, 1955, in Newark, NJ to the late Elizabeth “Betty” and John “Jack” Hull, he lived in East Newark and Cedar Knolls, NJ, before moving to Wildwood Crest, NJ and Naples, FL. Terry was the beloved husband of Mary Beth (née Cardiello), to whom he was married for 35 wonderful years. He was a devoted father of Terrence “TJ” and wife Melissa Hull, Ann and husband Steven Truant, Ryan Hull and Andrew Hull. He was lovingly known as “Pop” to Jack, Joseph, Quinn and Connor. Terry is also survived by his sister, Cheryl and husband Vinny Blasi, and brother, Wayne and wife Holly Hull, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Terry graduated from Villanova University in 1977 and achieved his Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School in 1983. He worked as a County Investigator (1977-83) and Assistant Prosecutor (1983-87) for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Terry attained great success in the courtroom as a Senior Trial Attorney for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company (1987-91) before hanging his own shingle with Coppola and Hull, PC (1991-97). His illustrious legal career continued at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, where he served as First Assistant Prosecutor (1997-2002), later working as a Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, acting as Chief for the Major Financial Crimes Bureau (2002-13). He also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Saint Peter’s College and as a Compliance Officer for Novartis. Impressively, Terry was certified as both a civil and criminal trial attorney – a designation held by less than one percent of all attorneys in New Jersey.
Terry was an avid marathon runner and could often be spotted jogging, no matter the weather, throughout Hanover Township, NJ. He also passionately supported Villanova University basketball and the New York Yankees. His deepest love, however, was sharing time with his wife, four children and his grandchildren, whether it be on the beach at Seapointe Village, by the pool in Cedar Knolls, or at the dinner table, recounting stories, playing backgammon and laughing at “dad” jokes.
