Obituary of Earline Ann Rumsey Cortese

Earline Ann Rumsey Cortese, 83, of Morris Plains passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2023.  She was born in Dover, New Jersey, and has been a resident of Morris Plains since 1977.

Earline was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1957 and married her loving husband, Carmine, in 1962 after meeting him while bowling at Dover Lanes.  In 1963, she and Carmine opened Alumacraft Company in Morristown and soon moved the business to Morris Plains.  They transitioned the business to Final Touch in 1980.  Most recently, Earline opened Regalo Gifts with her daughter Maria in 2013.

Earline enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, hosting holidays, planting flowers, watching the New York Yankees.  She loved her Disney and Wildwood Crest/Cape May vacations, where she would be seen keeping her grandchildren company in the shade, or sitting out with them when the rides were “too scary”.  Earline was an engaging conversationalist and had a wit that would keep everyone laughing.  She loved watching TV and movies with her grandchildren, laughing at every joke. Even in her later years, she always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face laughing with everyone in the room.  Her grandkids will always remember her sense of humor, making gingerbread houses at Christmas, their sleepovers, and the fluffiest pancakes ever made.  She will be eternally missed and never forgotten.

Earline is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Carmine Cortese and her father, Earl Rumsey.  She is survived by her daughter Maria Scott and her husband Dave along with her cherished grandchildren Amanda, Elyse and David.  She is also survived by her sister Deanna Cicchetti along with her beloved nieces and nephews Aldo Cicchetti, Lisa Newkirk, Chris Cicchetti, Julie Cicchetti, Pat Catizone, Carmine Cortese and Carmine Catizone.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 5-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains.  A Funeral Mass for Earline will be held on Friday May 5, 2023 at 10am at St. Margaret’s Church, 6 Sussex Avenue, Morristown.  Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
