After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, Joe graduated from Fordham College with a degree in Sociology and Economics. He served in Korea in the US Army Infantry as a 1st Lieutenant followed by Fordham University School of Law. Admitted to the NY and Florida bars, Joe worked for the US Air Force as a contract specialist, then at the Legal Aid Society, Criminal Division, New York State Narcotic Addiction Control Commission as well as spending several years as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York investigating and prosecuting consumer fraud. While living in Parsippany, he became a member of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council. It was late in his life that he decided to become a NJ lawyer and so he studied and passed the bar. Joe met his lifetime companion, Lois in 1978 and married her in 1983, taking on the responsibilities of raising her 2 young children. They spent ,many years traveling the globe, visiting all 7 continents and learning about dozens of cultures. In addition to being a NY Mets and Giants fan, he maintained his avid reading about World War II history and aviation, making a point of visiting resistant museums around the world. He was always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. He routinely rooted for the underdog and was the eternal optimist, always looking for the goodness in people and never saying a negative thing about anyone.
Joe was predeceased by his parents and sisters Angelina Migliore and Vincenza Conigliaro. He is survived by his wife Lois, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Nicole Chernev of San Francisco, daughter and son-in-law Chana and Matt Landi of Vermont and 2 grandchildren, West and Mesa Landi.
