Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beloved Wife, Sister, Aunt & Millburn resident, 75

Marie P. Fineran (neé Palumbo) passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023—on her 51st wedding anniversary—surrounded by loved ones.

Born Marie Clelia Palumbo on February 6, 1948 in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Italy to Matteo and Giovannina Palumbo. Marie immigrated in 1954 with her family to the US, where they settled in Millburn NJ for 69 years. Legend has it, she is the only one who didn’t get sea sick on their voyage.

Marie graduated from Millburn High School and received a B.A. in French from Monmouth University. Having spent her entire career with State Farm Insurance, she retired in 2006 as a divisional claims superintendent.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Fineran, who passed away in 2016. Together they enjoyed traveling, hiking, while only he enjoyed camping. Marie followed Scoutmaster Ken around the world from Rio to Rome, Hong Kong to Alaska and New Hampshire to Spain. They were both voracious readers, patrons of the arts, and snowbirds, spending their winters at their home on Hutchinson Island in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Ken and her father Matteo. Marie is survived by her mother, Giovannina Palumbo of Millburn; her sister, Lena Kasliner and brother-in-law Harvey of Jensen Beach, FL; brother, Michael Palumbo and sister-in-law LuAnn of Union, NJ; brother-in-law Charles Fineran of Great Meadows, NJ and sister-in-law Susan Fineran and her husband Craig Herb of Medford, MA  and her nieces Nikki Palumbo, Christina Palumbo, Rachel Kasliner, Molly Kasliner, and Kathleen Fineran. Marie leaves behind many close friends and relatives.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church in Short Hills, NJ. Entombment of ashes to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BSA Troop 17 Short Hills or Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ.

Arrangements are under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison NJ.
