Obituary of Shirley B. Gregory

Gregory,  Shirley B. (Hopping) passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023. She was 95.

Shirley was born and raised in Morristown,  NJ, graduated from Morristown High School in 1947, and was a member of Morristown Presbyterian Church.  After high school she worked for Mepco in Morristown as a switchboard operator for many years.  Shirley was an avid bowler and was involved in many bowling leagues in Madison. She also loved to roller skate.  She was a regular at Florham Park Roller Rink every weekend,  perfecting her skill.

On November 9, 1956, Shirley married her beloved husband,  Charles A. Gregory,  who lovingly called her "Doll" throughout their 61 years together.  Early in their marriage,  Shirley was a caregiver to children in her home, while raising her own 4 children. 

Shirley loved her family and wanted them all to be happy.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband,  Charles A. Gregory Sr., loving son Robert M. Gregory,  her parents Leslie and Florence Hopping,  and her sister Virginia Hopping Ballantyne.

Surviving to keep her memory alive are her loving children: Charles A. Jr. (Billie) of Lanexa, VA, and Thomas Gregory and Nancy Schulze both of Morris Plains. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren who she loved dearly: Angela Cloninger, Megan Hardy, Katelyn and Kevin Schulze, and Jennifer,  Jesse,  John and Joseph Gregory, and 7 precious great-grandchildren.  

Visiting will be on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4-7pm, with a Funeral Service at 7:00pm, at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Graveside Service will take place on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:30am at Evergreen Cemetery, 65 Martin Luther King Avenue, Morristown.
