Obituary of David J. McSherry

David J. McSherry, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023, surrounded by his family.  He was 78.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia “Pat” McSherry (nee Nichols); four children, daughter Kathleen Pruzick and her husband Andrew, son Michael McSherry and his wife Christina, son Brian McSherry and his wife Anna, and daughter Bonnie Finkeldey and her husband Paul; ten cherished grandchildren, Emily & Kyle Pruzick, Ryan McSherry, Meagan Couch and Husband Sam, Delaney McSherry, Mia, Ryan, & Cora McSherry, Alexis & Patrick (PJ) Finkeldey; and many extended family and friends.

Dave is survived by his sister Diane McSherry of Convent Station, NJ, and predeceased by brother Bill McSherry and Roy McSherry.     

Dave was born in Morristown on April 3, 1945, to the late William F. and Evelyn McSherry.  He was raised in Morristown with his 3 siblings.  Dave attended high school at Bailey Ellard graduating in 1963.  He went on to complete his BS from NJIT.   

Dave had a longtime career in telecommunications as a Senior OSP Design Engineer for Verizon and Telcordia.  He spent much of his career working for the Department of Defense traveling the world. 

Dave was a lifetime member of the Hillside Hose Company on Western Avenue in Morris Township and then the Madison Fire Department. 

When his children were young, Dave was a Little League Coach and a member of the Madison Huddle Club.  He was a selfless man who enjoyed his community and the people around him.  Dave’s legacy will be carried on by his family for generations to come.

Dave will be buried at Holy Rood Cemetery in a private ceremony and a celebration of life at a later date.
