Obituary of Joseph Sager

Joseph Sager, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 21, 2024, after a long illness.

He was born and raised in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, graduating from Tilden HS. After attending 2 years at Community College, he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. During the four years he was stationed aboard ship, he worked as an electronic technician and traveled to Japan, Europe and North Africa. Later, assisted by the GI Bill, he enrolled in the University of Alabama School of Engineering where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked for Corning Glass briefly before landing at the Dept of Defense at Picatinny Arsenal for over 30 years until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of the Morristown Jewish Center for over 50 years where he held many positions on the Board, including President of the Men’s Club. He volunteered for First Night in Morristown for 27 years. He also was a volunteer at the Morristown Soup Kitchen for over 20 years. His passion for gardening led him to Frelinghuysen Arboretum where he was a horticultural volunteer.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years, Florence Sager and his loving daughters, Paula Sager, Lenore Sager and her husband, David Griffiths, and Michele Sager and her husband, Jeff Luick.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00am at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Cedar Knolls.
