Obituary of Nancy Linn Purdy

Nancy Linn Purdy, 94, passed away on January 31, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center.

Born in Orange, NJ, Nancy grew up in Madison. While she worked, Nancy lived in Manhattan, NY for almost 30 years. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Madison for 17 years before moving to Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge in 2010. She loved Madison.

Nancy graduated from Kent Place School, Summit, NJ in 1947. She served on the Board of Trustees from 1999-2002.  In 2002, Nancy received the “Barbara Wight Biddison ’30 Distinguished Alumna Award.”

She went on to earn her B.A. degree from Vassar College in 1951. Nancy then entered the work force and was Vice President/Group Head for a major advertising firm in NYC upon her retirement.

Nancy enjoyed being a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of NYC, where she was a long-time member, the Thursday Morning Club in Madison, NJ, where she served as a Committee Chair and a Board member. She also served as a Board member and Committee Chair for the Vassar Clubs of New York and Jersey Hills.

Nancy was an avid reader, participating in several book clubs, and was an intrepid traveler. She particularly loved the National Geographic sponsored tours and went on many. Her wit, smile and interest in people touched all who knew her and came in contact with her. She will be missed dearly.

Nancy is predeceased by her brother William Purdy, as well as her parents Alvin and Dorothy Purdy. She is survived by her dear friends, James Luts, Carol Cowan, and Timothy L. Thompson, ESQ.

A Gathering of Friends will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4:00pm-5:30pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. Interment of Ashes will take place at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Middletown, NY.
