Norma Lohner

Obituary of Norma Dorothy Lohner

Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Norma D. Lohner (nee Keuten), of Morristown, NJ, passed away peacefully in Morristown in March.

Norma was born and raised in Jefferson County, Nebraska; graduated from the University of Nebraska, as did her dad; married James H. “Jim” Lohner, an officer in the U.S. Air Force with whom she then had three children; and, having earned a Bachelor of Music (B.M.), pursued her passion for music by teaching chorus and general music in schools, giving piano lessons, working as a church organist, and attending as many concerts as she could wherever Jim’s career took the clan.

Because he was frequently away on assignment, Norma was often raising the kids solo, yet she was an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and a vigorous volunteer, doing her bit during a lot of book drives.

Another one of Norma’s enthusiasms was exploring the many places she and the family were stationed, and she and Jim were pleased to be able to travel extensively when they retired.

Norma was predeceased by Jim as well as by her mother and father, Marie and Diedrich Keuten, and her siblings, Clarence, Raymond, Richard, and Eleanor. She will be missed by her daughters, Beth Lohner, with whom she resided the last several years with their beloved dog Toodles, and Ann Lohner; her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Denise Lohner; her grandsons, Ryan Lohner and James Lohner; as well as generations of Keuten and Tietjen nieces and nephews.

Services are private. Memorials in her name to local dog rescue societies or performing arts organizations would be appreciated.

Arrangements were under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains, NJ.
