Obituary of Dennis G. Mullins, Sr.
Dennis G. Mullins, 80, from Madison, NJ sadly left us peacefully on May 22, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, William and Elly Mullins, his brother, William F. Mullins, Jr. and Dennis’ loving wife of more than 40 years, Judy, and granddaughter Susie Rosado. He is survived by his brother, Peter Mullins and his sister Patrician Jackson along with his devoted children, Dennis Mullins, Jr and his wife Dawn, William F. Mullins III, Zuzann Mullins Rosado and her husband Gus, Pamela Taylor and John Taylor and his wife Michelle. He is blessed with his loving grandchildren, Madison, Tucker, Tatum, Morgan, Ryan and Xavier along with a multitude of cousins both local and abroad.
Dennis was known for his friendly manner, dry wit, and service to Madison, but he was best known for his ownership of Poor Herbies Restaurant. He and Judy purchased the establishment in 1992 and made it Madison’s version of Cheers, as they made all of their patrons feel welcome and like family for their 25 years.
He had a passion for history and politics. Moving to Madison in the 1980’s, Dennis became active in the Madison Republican Committee and was elected Councilman in 1989 and served three terms from January 1990 through December 1998. As an active leader, he served as Chair of the Public Safety Committee, the Public Works and Engineering Committee; the Parks & Recreation Committee; and the Health & Public Assistance Committee. Dennis was a key Councilman in the Borough’s deciding the 1995 question of whether or not to sell the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts building. It was his observation that the historic building was part of the “fabric of Madison” that happily saved the building from its sale.
In his leisure time, Dennis enjoyed relaxing on the beach with his family and friends in his beloved “Kittiwake” beach front home in Lavallette. Nothing made him happier than having his family with him in the sand and the sun.
Friends may pay their respects on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler, 100 Main Street, Madison, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Madison Shade Trees, Inc., P.O. Box 632, Madison, N.J. 07940. https://www.rosenet.
