Obituary of Michael Anthony Basciano

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On July 9, 2024 Michael Anthony Basciano, age 34, died while on vacation with his family in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Michael was born to Theresa and Vincent Basciano on January 6, 1990. He grew up in Mount Olive, New Jersey, graduating from Mount Olive High School in 2008. He went on to earn his degree in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island in 2012. The friendships he developed through his childhood and college years have lasted to this day.

After college, Michael was proud to spend three years working with his Uncle Jerry Basciano in construction management before starting his career in finance. Michael dedicated over eight years to Asset Based Lending, rising to the position of Executive Vice President, Head of Special Servicing and Loss Mitigation.

Michael, ever the life of the party, was, above all, genuine and loyal. He was a pillar of strength for all those around him. Whether you knew him for years or had only met him briefly, Michael treated you with kindness and was sure to make you laugh. His warm personality made everyone feel welcome. He enjoyed gatherings with his big Italian family, spoiling his nieces and nephews, spending quality time with friends, and playing music, especially the guitar. Among Michael’s favorite pastimes was golfing with his brothers, Christopher and Vinnie. Like his father, Michael was an avid sports fan. He loved the Yankees, the New Jersey Devils, and the Minnesota Vikings, sparking a friendly rivalry with his wife, a passionate Buffalo Bills fan.

Married on June 17th, 2023, Michael is survived by his wife, Karen (Shaddock) Basciano. The two were introduced by close friends and knew on their first date that they had found something special. Michael and Karen enjoyed traveling and always had a long list of places they wanted to see. Near and far, they loved exploring the world together. Their dog, Kale, who shared a special bond with Michael, was always by their side. Michael was a loving and proud husband. He was without a doubt Karen’s biggest fan on and off the lacrosse field. Although their time together was too short, the love Michael and Karen shared was immeasurable.

Michael is also survived by his loving mother, Theresa Basciano; his beloved siblings, Vinnie (Serena) Basciano, Michelle (Kevin) Peirsel, and Christopher Basciano; his nieces, Talia & Isabelle Basciano and nephews, Stephen & Vincent Peirsel; his cherished grandmother, Eleanor Riley; and his many adoring aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael was predeceased by his father Vincent Basciano.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ 07950, Friday, August 2nd. This will include a visitation from 4pm-7:30pm with a prayer service beginning at 6:45pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hemophilia Association of New Jersey (www.hanj.org).
