Obituary of Anna Maria Russo

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anna M. Russo, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend passed away on August 21 at home after a long illness. Anna recently turned 91 years old on August 15 surrounded by her family.

Anna was predeceased by her husband, Cosimo “Gus” Russo, and her five siblings in Italy. She is survived by her sister, Lidia Campiglia in Italy; her son, Anthony, his wife, Janet of Montvale, NJ, her daughter, Angela, her husband, Timothy Conroy of Hackettstown, NJ, her daughter, Lucia, who resided and attended to her care. Anna was the proud grandmother of Cassandra & Justin Anderson, James Russo & Mellissa Russo. Loving aunt to many.

Anna and Gus were born and married in Ginosa, Italy.  Anna remained in Italy and eventually embarked on a remarkable journey to America. Anna traveled alone on a twelve-day voyage from Italy to New York to be reunited with her husband.

A cornerstone of the family, Anna was the heart of the home. Anna was a supportive wife and nurturer, and she was known for her culinary talents. Through her love for cooking, she shared her warmth, love, and happiness. She loved making holiday meals and being surrounded by her family. She worked part-time while her children were young. Years later Anna became employed at Warner Lambert Pharmaceutical in Morris Plains and worked alongside her husband. Working outside the home she taught herself the English language and made new friends. This is a testament to her adaptability, determination, and unyielding spirit. Anna also attended mass regularly at St. Virgil’s in Morris Plains.

After a long career of fifteen years, Anna retired and began to enjoy her new role as Nonna to Cassandra, James, and Melissa. Anna’s kindness, generosity, and caring nature touched all who knew her. Memorial contributions in Anna’s memory can be made to the American Heart Association.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial for Anna will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Virgil's Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown.
