Obituary of Roberta M. Dunne
Roberta Mitchell Dunne, 89, a lifelong resident of Madison, NJ passed away on September 27, 2024 surrounded by her family at home.
Roberta was a housewife and former co-owner of Dunne’s Paint and Hardware in Madison, NJ.
Roberta, a life long Madison resident whose family (DeHart-Beers) were early settlers of Madison dating back to colonial times. Her grand-parents (Mitchell) arrived in America with the delegation from France that dedicated the Statue of Liberty.
Roberta graduated from Madison High School in 1952 and was a member of St. Vincent’s Church.
Roberta served on many committees with her husband, former Madison Mayor Jack Dunne. She served on veteran, civic, and private projects, including the Madison 9-11 Memorial, the James Madison bust on Waverly Place, Madison Memorial Day parades, the veteran Paver Program at James Park, and the veterans’ memorial book “Always With Us”. Roberta also served as a volunteer to the Heart Association and the Kings Road PTO.
Roberta had a passion for Jigsaw puzzles, nature and wildlife, and watching the morning sun come up on her walks around Fawn Lake, but most of all her love for her family.
Roberta, an avid reader, enjoyed drifting in her pedal boat on Fawn Lake in Pennsylvania while reading a novel.
Roberta was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Dorothy (DeHart) Mitchell and a sister Joan Busch.
She is survived by her husband Jack; two sons and their spouses, John and Eileen (Smith) and Robert and Susan (MacGeorge); four grandchildren, John, Colin, Ryan, and Dylan; one great-grand child Hailey; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements by Boroughs Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. Viewing on Monday, September 30th from 4 -7pm. A mass will be held at St Vincent’s Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ, at 10 am Tuesday, October 1st and burial at St Vincent’s Cemetery, located at Shunpike Road & Noe Avenue Madison, NJ.
Memorial donations may be made in Roberta’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Association or Wounded Warriors.
