Obituary of John A Sweeney

John Anthony Sweeney, 64, of Morristown, NJ, passed away on July 7, 2015 in Morristown, NJ. Born in Easton, PA, John resided in Sparks, MD before moving to Morristown 19 years ago. John graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1968; and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Accounting from Penn State University in 1973. John was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA); and also completed a program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 1990. John worked as Director of HCM Finance at Horizon Blue Cross & Blue Shield of New Jersey in Newark, NJ for 19 years. Throughout his career, his previous positions included: Vice President at CareFirst Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Owings Mills, MD; and Manager at Arthur Anderson & Co. in Baltimore, MD. John was a fan and regular supporter of his alma mater, Penn State University. He was an avid golfer, and reader; and enjoyed travelling to play golf; as well as to visit family and friends. He was also a supporter of numerous charities. John was committed to his work, and cared deeply about his colleagues and co-workers. John is survived by his loving daughter, Cheryl Hinson and her husband, Chris, of Columbia, SC; his mother, Ann Hill, of Sebring, FL; and his cherished grandchildren, Lydia and Nathan Hinson. He is also survived by his aunt Carol Dovan and her husband, Wayne, of Doylestown, PA; his uncle, Raymond Morrow, of Bethlehem, PA; and his siblings, Michael Konders, of Mulberry, FL, Michelle Konders-Cascioli of Pocono Lake, PA; and Valerie Smach, of Sebring, FL. Family and friends are invited to visit with John’s family on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 6-8pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. Graveside service and interment will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 12:00pm (noon) at Northhampton Memorial Shrine Cemetery, 3051 Green Pond Road, Easton, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of John be made to a charity of one’s choice in John’s honor.
