Obituary of Dorothy Anne Veasey

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy Anne (“Dottie”) Veasey (nee’ Rosenski), a champion of democracy, passed away on November 26, 2024 after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 13, 1942, to Dorothy and Leo Rosenski, she will be remembered for her whit, compassion and ability to make anyone smile.

She will be remembered as a warm and loving person by her family including her surviving sisters Bernice and Helen and their families, her husband Dave, her children Jeffrey and Robyn, their spouses Jill and Jason, and her much loved grandchildren, Sarah and Drew. A favorite of her nieces and nephews, Aunt Dar was always willing to listen and support dreams, no matter how fantastical they may have sounded.

Dottie was a lover of (safe) adventures and started that journey shortly after graduating Battin High School when she took to the friendly skies as a Stewardess for United Airlines. In an age when travel meant sophistication, she was dressed head-to-toe in Oleg Cassini while serving coffee or tea in real porcelain cups. Her adventures from that home-base in Chicago included nights out at famous restaurants and night clubs, a first marriage and her first born, Jeff. Dottie returned home to New Jersey where she met and married P. David Veasey, Jr. of Chatham, the couple expanded their family to include a daughter, Robyn, and their love of travel and history continued. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage this past summer.

Dottie’s career expanded from stewardess to school teacher to Epstein’s to bank teller to mortgage broker and finally to branch manager at Chase bank where she used her knack for helping people as a cornerstone of her career. While assistant manager at the Morris Plains Chase, she often volunteered at Greystone to help with holiday parties, and when patients needed banking, they all went to Dottie for help with a side of compassion. Dottie’s desires to help and engage her community had her joining the Morris Plains Democrat Committee where she was their treasurer and ran more than once for Town Council.  She was also the driving force behind the Morris Plains Borough School’s 8th grade Democracy essay scholarship asking that first class of recipients, “What does democracy mean to you?”.

Dottie’s love of travel has taken her all over Europe, with Venice and Paris as her favorite destinations.  She was thrilled to get her dream girls trip to Paris in 2023 with her daughter and granddaughter where they ate and drank their way through all the Paris haunts. After an adventure with her husband in a Land Rover in Europe, Dottie found cruising a preferred method of travel, cruising to Alaska, the Caribbean, and on more than one trans-Atlantic journey to Europe.

She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but she will remain forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life be will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Dangler Funeral Home at 600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ.
