Obituary of Sylvester Johnson, Sr.

Sylvester Santos Johnson of Morris Plains, NJ was born to the late Samuel Adepimpe Johnson and Reachel Sijuwola Adunni Johnson on July 1, 1949, in Lagos, Nigeria. Sylvester was the third child of six siblings: Olumide Christopher Johnson, Adenike Caroline Williams-Onitiri, Folasade Felicia Senbote, and the late Adeyinka Johnson.

He attended St. Luke's Primary School. He went on to attend H.S.C. Federal School of Arts & Science in Onikan, Lagos and St. Paul's College.  He worked at PZ Industries before traveling to America in 1973 to attend Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey where he proudly received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. 

He later married Tracey Elizabeth Johnson on April 7, 1984, and had two children Jac'lynn Shade Ruggiero and Sylvester Bjorn Johnson Jr. Sylvester valued education and was a hard worker. 

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, wit and generosity.  His commitment to his family's well-being will surely be missed.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his mother, father, sibling Adeyinka Johnson and his late wife Tracey Elizabeth Johnson.

Sylvester leaves behind two children; Jac'lynn Shade Ruggiero and Sylvester Bjorn Johnson Jr., son-in -law Anthony Ruggiero, granddaughter Sierra, siblings, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, brother & sisters-in-laws and dear friends.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 2-5pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains.
