Obituary of Dorothy May Lill

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy May Lill was born on June 18, 1933, in Fannin County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Rufus and Girlie Allen and had three brothers and one sister (Jimmy, Marie, Wayne, and Bud). She married Edward Lill on September 15, 1956, and raised three sons (EJ, Ken, and Steve) in Madison, New Jersey. She is preceded in death by her husband and youngest son Stephen.

Dorothy was an amazing woman who was kind, compassionate and giving. Everybody loved her as a strong willed but gentle soul.

After high school, she worked for Allied Chemical in Virginia as a technical typist until she married Edward and moved to New Jersey. There, she continued to work until they started a family. She was a quiet person who was a dedicated, full-time mom raising her 3 sons and was a staunch supporter of everything they did. Together with her husband they made sure their children had everything they needed to succeed in life.

When she had free time, she volunteered at the church and was also an avid golfer. She won several amateur golf tournaments which included four holes in one and routinely beat her husband. Despite her success on the golf course, she did not like the spotlight and was much more comfortable being the world’s greatest mom.

Her final request was to have a small funeral for family and friends and to be buried with her husband and son, Stephen in Madison, New Jersey.

In your own way/religion please say a prayer for her and perform a random act of kindness for someone in need. We ask that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).

Arrangements are under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
