Like most of his family and friends, I have very fond and lasting memories of Uncle George, all related to his “quirky” humor and charismatic personality. As a youngster and young adult, family parties were always a pleasure since I knew I’d be meeting up with Uncle George to play a few games of tennis, air hockey, horseshoes, or an infamous late night round of pinochle! I know that each of us has at least one special memory of Uncle George, and I’d like to share one of mine with you. Back in 1978, I was part of a high school marching band that an opportunity to compete in Montville, which was Uncle George’s home town. As I was finishing a trumpet solo at the end of our competition, some crazy guy in the stands started cheering my rather mediocre performance, which seemed rather odd at the time. As I was walking off the performance field, a familiar voice behind me said “Great job, Jophis”, and I knew immediately that this was Uncle George. You see, for some unknown reason, Uncle George nicknamed me Jophis at an early age, which was how he greeted me throughout my entire life. To this day, I still smile when thinking about that moment!

It was an incredible sorrow when I learned of George’s passing. He was truly a fine gentleman. I got to know George at an event that was run by our church and we had such a good time performing together. George and I used to sing at the stations of the Cross When our children were in high school. The memories of those good times will always stay in my heart. My sincerest condolences go to my friend, Rose, and all the Alcorn children. George was a kind and wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him. Once I moved to South Carolina, I didn’t get to see George very often, but the Alcorn‘s will always hold a special place in my heart. Rest in peace George. May God bless you always.
Love and prayers. Bernadette Dudek and family

My first memory of this wonderful man was during his consultation appt at ProCure. He and Rose (and I think Stephen, too) were together with the staff, asking questions and receiving information.
I don’t recall what prompted George to sing “Melancholy Baby,” but he did and with great relish. He also shared with us about the intro to the song, which is unknown to most people. Later I learned the touching back story of what this song meant to his beloved Rose.
My husband Greg and I were fortunate to become friends with Rose and George since that first day at ProCure. We adored them, and always were so happy to see them or chat on the phone. George and I sang Johnny Cash songs together and it was always a delight to hear his child-like giggle when we’d change the words around.
They say that the larger the grief we feel, the greater the love there was. If that’s true, then—my gosh—there are many many people who are feeling deep grief today. But it is also our faith which offers consolation knowing that we will see this great man again….as George would say, all of a sudden.
We love you, Rose.
We love you, George. What an honor to know you.
