Obituary of Charles D. Visscher
~~Charles David “Dave” Visscher, 86, of Morris Plains, passed away on August 29, 2017 in Rochester, New York.
Born in East Orange, Dave resided in Morristown before moving to Morris Plains 58 years ago.
Dave graduated from Morristown High School in 1949, and conducted post-high school studies at the Solebury School in 1950. He earned his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1956.
Dave proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Dave worked as an Engineer for Public Service Electric & Gas Company for 40 years, until his retirement in 1996. In his spare time, Dave was a parishioner of The Presbyterian Church on the Green in Morristown; as well as the following organizations: Cincinnati Lodge No.3, Free & Accepted Masons; Grand Lodge of New Jersey, Museum of Masonic Culture, where he was a Museum Curator; Valley of Northern New Jersey, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, where he was coroneted a 33o Mason; Salaam Shrine, Shriners International; Atlas Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey; York Rite Bodies of New Jersey; Morris Plains Shade Tree Commission; and the Morris Plains Memorial Day Parade Committee.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Thompson Visscher; and his devoted children, Karyn B. Visscher, of Morris Plains, and Glenn T. Visscher, and his wife, Amy W. Butler-Visscher, of Morristown. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sandra M. Thompson, of Massachusetts; granddaughter, Gwyneth R. Butler of Morristown; and his nieces and nephews, Kristia H. and Patrick Finnigan, of South Carolina, Joal K. Hetherington, of Maine, Lianne E. Hetherington – Ward, of Illinois, Eric T. and Jane R. Hetherington, of Texas, Andrew M. and Michelle B. Thompson, of Massachusetts, and Deborah L. Thompson, of New Hampshire. In addition to his parents, Earl H. and Mabel M. Visscher, Dave was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Visscher Cobb; his sister-in-law, Jeanne T. Hetherington; and his brother-in-law, Lewis B. Thompson, Jr.
A Memorial Service for Dave will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 2:00pm at The Presbyterian Church on the Green in Morristown (57 East Park Place). Interment of Dave's ashes will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Museum of Masonic Culture (100 Barrack St., Trenton, NJ), The Presbyterian Church on the Green in Morristown (65 South St., Morristown, NJ), or Cincinnati Lodge No.3, Free & Accepted Masons (39 Maple Ave., Morristown, NJ).
