Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

~~Alice Marie "Alre" Devers Balint passed away peacefully on September 12, 2017 with her beloved husband, Matthew ("Matt") J. Balint, at her side.  Services and burial will be private.

Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on March 23, 1930 to William and Alice Devers, she was the oldest of four children.  As a young girl, her family relocated to Newark, New Jersey.  After losing her father at an early age, Alice formed a close bond with her mother, sisters and younger brother.  Alice graduated from Barringer High School and completed her undergraduate degree in teacher's education where she excelled.

Alice proudly obtained her Masters in Library Science at Rutgers University.  A teacher for many years in the Newark Public School system, Alice was an admired and effective teacher at all levels of elementary education.

She met Matt, her husband of sixty three years, and they were married on December 26, 1953.  Matt and Alice lived for many years in Glen Ridge, Short Hills and, most recently, Roseland.

Alice was an elegant, stylish, accomplished woman whose outer beauty was matched only by her inner beauty.  She was devoted to her family and will remain forever with them.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, sister-in-law, Audrey Galasso, and brother-in-law, Edward J. Fontaine.  She is survived by her husband, Matt, and her sisters Mary Fontaine and Claire Petoletti (Angelo) and her brother, William Devers (Leslie).  She also is survived by her nieces, Lynn Fontaine Newsome, Claire Gorman, Susan Petoletti, Nadine O'Donnell, Colleen Nowak and nephew, Brian Petoletti and all of their families.

In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family would like to thank the staff of Arden Court, Whippany, New Jersey for their continued care of Alice over the past few years. Arrangements were under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains, NJ.
