Obituary of C Edwards Dobbins

C. Edwards "Ed" Dobbins passed away on July 16, 2015 at the New Jersey Firemen's home in Boonton, NJ. Ed was the son of the late Carlton & Alice Dobbins. He was born on October 3, 1924, raised in Morris Plains, NJ, and graduated from Morristown High School in 1942. After enlisting in the US Marine Corp during WWII, he participated in the capture and occupation of the Japanese held islands of Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After being discharged from the US Marine Corp, he was employed by the U.S. Postal service and was the licensed owner of the Dobbins Insurance Agency. He also attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was a member of the Morris Plains Fire Department since 1952, becoming chief in 1960. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 59, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the NJ State Firemen's Relief Association. Ed is predeceased by his wife of 61 years Maria (Halbig), his brother Carlton, and sisters Virginia Van Ness, and Jean (Bunny) Osborne. He is survived by his sister Barbara Crawford of Morris Township, NJ, his sons Thomas and his wife Margaret of Rockaway Twp., NJ, Robert of Leland, North Carolina, Edward and his wife Karen of Milton, Delaware, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation Monday, July 20, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00, with a service at 7pm, at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ. Interment will be private.
