Obituary of Georgina H Torroella

Georgina H. Torroella, 85, passed away on January 12, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Madison, NJ, where she lived for the past seven years. She was born in Oriente, Cuba, resided in Miami, FL and prior to that, in Garden City, NY.

Georgina graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, Washington, DC, before returning to her native Cuba. With her infant daughter, Georgina immigrated to the United States for good in 1960, when they met up with her husband, Juan A. Torroella, who had settled in New York a few months earlier.

While she lived in Garden City, NY, she performed data entry duties at Henry Schein Co., Melville, NY, and also worked as a sales clerk at Macy’s. In her later years, Georgina founded the Spanish Club and was active in the Flower Club at Sunrise. She was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Morristown, NJ.

She is survived by her devoted children, Irene Marchetto and her husband, Dean, Hoboken, NJ, Ana Rubio, Miami, FL, Luis Torroella and his wife, Susan, Ellicott City, MD, and Dr. Maria Carney and her husband, Joe, Lattingtown, NY, and her cherished grandchildren, Vincent Marchetto, Steven Marchetto, Peter Marchetto, Antonio Rubio, Diego Rubio, Pablo Rubio, Nicholas Torroella, John Torroella, Grace Carney, Joseph Carney and Claire Carney. She is also survived by her sisters, Julia Malcom, Fort Lauderdale, FL and Rosa Fuentes, Dayton, OH.She was predeceased by her husband, Juan A Torroella, in 2010.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ 07940. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More, 4 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ. Interment will be private.
