Obituary of James B. Galbraith, Jr.

James B. Galbraith, Jr. of Parsippany passed away peacefully on January 21st at the age of 79.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of James Sr. and Edna Galbraith. Jim graduated from Moravian College where he met his wife Jean. He received his master’s degree from Montclair State. He had a distinguished career as an educator. Jim taught biology at Morristown High School, became Science Department Chair, and later principal of MHS until his retirement. He supervised student teachers for Montclair State and Rutgers, and mentored administrators.

Known for his stoic nature, patience, kindness, and being a good listener, Jim was cherished by many.

Jim was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and later St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for 30 years where he served on the vestry and was a Stephens Minister.  He was President of the Morristown Kiwanis and was awarded the National Energy Foundation Teacher of the Year.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Jean of 57 years; and by his children, Lynn Livingston and her husband Mark of Morristown, and James Galbraith, III and his wife Joan (Parisek) of Morristown; his cherished grandchildren; Jake and Colby Livingston, and James, Will, and Catherine Galbraith; his dear sister Jeanne Beard, his nephew Rick, and niece Cindy, as well as extended family and friends.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown on Saturday, January 27th at 3:00pm. A repast in the Parish Hall will follow.
