Obituary of Mary Jo Hashagen

Please share a memory of Mary Jo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Jo Hashagen, 63, passed away on January 27th after a year long battle with cancer.

A life-long resident of Parsippany, Mary Jo was born in Brooklyn on February 15, 1954. She graduated from Bayley-Ellard High School and earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from Rosemont (PA) College and her masters degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, also in chemistry.

She was employed by Drew Chemical Corporation for sixteen years and after serving as a stay-at-home mom for seven years, worked for another 16 years as an administrative assistant at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.

Mary Jo loved music, and sang in the choir and served as cantor at St. Virgil’s Church in Morris Plains. She was also an avid reader and loved to travel, where she enjoyed some incredible family road trips throughout the US and Canada.

She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Ken, their devoted son David and her two wonderful church families. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Betty Humm.

Visitation will take place at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, on Tuesday January 30th, from 3-8 PM, and a Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Virgil’s Church, Morris Plains, at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 31st. An additional memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown on Sunday, February 4th at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, the Music Ministry at St. Virgil’s Church or the Memorial Fund of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown in her memory.
