Obituary of John B. Regazzi
John B. Regazzi, 91, of Madison, NJ, passed away on February 25, 2018. He was born February 1, 1927 in Astoria, New York, and lived in Madison for 57 years. John graduated from Seton Hall University, NJ, in 1967. He worked for Wausau Insurance Corporation (and its later incarnations) for 50 years, having worked his way up from the mailroom to senior management. He retired in 1997 as the Regional Claims Manager for both New York and New Jersey. Additionally, John served in the Army towards the end of World War II from 1945-46. He was stationed on Governor’s Island, New York and served in the Military Police.
John was a member of St. Vincent Martyr Church, in Madison, NJ and was active in numerous social outreach programs, along with his wife, Helen, especially the Meals on Wheels program. Of particular note, John helped form an ad hoc group to establish the Lector ministry at St Vincent’s which previously had not existed. Years before that, he had served as a Lector in Watertown, New York.
John was a loving and faithful husband to his wife, Helen, for 65 years until her death in April of 2016. He was a much loved and devoted father and grandfather. He was the family patriarch and was well known for his caring, intelligence, and hospitality, including his wonderful, hand-crafted cocktails to compliment his wife’s fantastic gourmet meals.
John is survived by his children, Maryellen Miller, Elizabeth Maiello, John Robert Regazzi, and his wife, Carrie, and Paul Thomas Regazzi and his wife, Gerri. He also is survived by his loving grandchildren, Thomas Dolcelli, Rebecca Miller, Alicia Miller, Catherine Luker, Theresa Maiello, PJ Maiello, Matthew Regazzi, Jessica Regazzi, Joseph Regazzi, Georgina Regazzi, Elizabeth Regazzi, Renee Regazzi, and Paul Savage as well as his nephew Daniel Eramo and his niece, Dominique Viard.
Family and friends are welcomed to gather on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 4-6 p.m. at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ 07940. A funeral Mass for John will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison, NJ, 07940. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Shunpike Road and Noe Ave., Madison, NJ, 07940.
