Obituary of James C. McCormick
James (Jim)Cornelius McCormick, 77, died peacefully on May 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family after a long and valiant struggle with multiple health problems.
Son of James C. McCormick, Sr. and Marjorie Callahan McCormick, Jim grew up in Manhattan. Due to his father’s untimely death when Jim was not yet two years of age, he was raised by three adoring women: his mother, Aunt Beatrice Callahan and grandmother, Margaret Callahan.
Jim attended The Collegiate School in New York City and went on to Yale University where he was a member of the Glee Club and the “Alley Cats”, an acapella singing group. He received an MBA from N.Y.U business school and was involved in institutional equities sales for most of his professional life, most notably spending his tenure at Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder & Drexel Burnham Lambert.
Kindness and humility defined Jim; a true “gentleman”, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his keen wit, generosity, knack for funny nicknames and silly song writing.
A member of St. Vincent Martyr Parish in Madison and Madison Golf Club, Jim resided in Madison for 45 years before moving to Harding Township two-and-one-half years ago.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of almost 50 years, Kathleen Willis McCormick; son Sean; daughter Marjorie McCormick Hardy (Brent); daughter Ellen McCormick, and three grandchildren, Claire Callahan Hardy, Ella Marie Hardy, and James “Jimmy” Cornelius McCormick.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Burroughs, Kohr, & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10 am at St. Vincent Martyr Parish, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ. Interment will follow to Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family of James McCormick respectfully requests contributions in his memory be made either to the Gagnon Heart Institute c/o the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center, 475 South Street, 1st Floor, Morristown, NJ 07960; or St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ 07940.
