Obituary of Friedel E. Zsombik
Friedel Zsombik passed peacefully on December 5th at the age of 87 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Friedel was affectionately known as "Oma" to all who knew her. She was born in Eckernforde, Germany and came to America at an early age, by herself, and worked as a live-in nanny for many years until she met her husband Ferenc, who is from Hungary. Later, when they moved to Whippany, she worked at Merck in Madison in the ood catering department until her retirement.
Friedel leaves behind her husband Ferenc and their two children Elizabeth Dillon, of Kinnelon, and Joseph Zsombik, of Madison, and their respective spouses Mike and Diane. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Meghan, Shayne, James and "Chase."
Friedel loved her grandchildren, watching tennis, going to Atlantic City to gamble and the Brookside Diner. She was known in her neighborhood as the German lady who liked to cook, especially at Christmas, when she baked her famous Christmas Cookies. She was a strong person who always said her mind and was loved by all.
Funeral arrangements will be private for the family with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
