Please share a memory of Cathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Cathleen A. Mallaney died February 7, 2019 at the age of 90.  She was surrounded by her children.  She lived a long and enriched life while enriching others around her with her extensive volunteering.  She was married to Edward A. Mallaney for 40 years, who predeceased her in 1993. She was a devoted wife and mother of 7 children, 20 grandchildren and last year became a great grandmother. Her oldest daughter Cathleen Mallaney Trees (Gary) predeceased her in 2003. She leaves behind her other children Edward (Grace) of Madison, NJ, Joseph (Barbara) of Summit, NJ, Maura Mallaney Perini (John) of New Providence, NJ, Nancy Phillips (David) of Alexandria, VA, Frances (James) of Madison, NJ and Patricia Downey (Christopher) of McLean, VA, and her 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Cathleen grew up in Manhattan, attended the Convent of Sacred Heart Academy and Manhattanville College. She was an elementary school teacher until she had children.  When she and Edward moved to Short Hills, NJ she became very involved with the St. Rose of Lima School where all her children attended. She made many lifelong friends by joining the Ladies Auxiliary, Rock Spring & Baltusrol Golf Clubs, and volunteering at church and in the community.  She was a devoted member of the choir at St. Theresa’s in Summit, NJ.   She loved going to the beach and playing golf.

A mass for Cathleen will be offered at Our Lady of Peace Church in New Providence on Wednesday, February 13th at 10 am. Visitation services will be at Burroughs Kohr & Dangler on Tuesday, February 12th from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Community Food Bank or Bridges.
