Obituary of Theresa M. Anderson

Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Theresa, “Terry”, “TiTi”,  Anderson passed away peacefully,  surrounded by family and friends at Morristown Memorial Medical Center just days away from her 64 th birthday after a long battle with heart disease. A celebration in honor of her life will be held on her “birthday”, March 30, from 1 to 3 at Dangler Funeral Home in Morris Plains, NJ.  At a later date,  a memorial service will be held in Kinston, NY where she lived and worked for 40 years.

Theresa was born in Brooklyn, NY where she grew up and earned her RN degree.  After her marriage to Donald Anderson in 1977, she moved to Kingston, NY where she worked as an emergency room nurse at Benedictine Hospital for 18 years, while she raised her family.  She spent the last 16 years of her life working for the Ulster County Jail as the Director of Nursing and later, Director of Patient Services. Theresa was recognized for her work initiating the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Benedictine Hospital.  Throughout her professional career, she has received several nationwide awards for her work.

In her free time, Theresa loved taking long drives, playing board games, and taking her dog, Olivia, to the dog park.  She loved anything related to Disney.  Her favorite place to be was Cape Cod, where she relaxed on the beach and collected starfish.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Anderson. She is survived by her son Donald (DJ) and his wife Lisamarie and their son, Devon; her daughter,  Dolores  Marie;  her brother, Dr. Patrick DeMare and his wife Kathy; her sister, Dolores Asthalter and her husband, Stephen. She is also survived by her nephew, Jon Paul , his wife, Laura and their four children, her niece Kandice and her son, Nathan, and her niece, Sarah and her husband Mark.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics to honor Theresa’s  volunteer work with this organization.
