My Papa showed me through his actions how important it is to have goals and work towards them daily, to love and appreciate your family because they are the ones who will be there when it counts. He told us to travel while we can and only eat real Italian food. He gave me the gift of music, when my boyfriend passed away last August he sent me a guitar. The last conversation I had with him he said, "sometimes feelings are best expressed through music, play what you feel, I love you." I am so honored to have been your granddaughter. Rest in Peace Papa. Hugs and kisses.

I can't really express to you what a gift, your dad and papa, MrG (Giardino) enjoyed discovering in all of us kids in Mendham Township. Because of his gentle nature i was hooked on music. I wasn't the most gifted or hardest working at first. But through struggling and working with Mr G, I played throughout High School, and Studied Music Performance and Private Instruction in college and made lifelong friends. All because when Music saved me, it was Mr G. He introduced us all to his Art form. He connected all of us and me to something larger than ourselves, and for that I am eternally grateful!
I always ask people, "What was your first concert, what artist did you first pay to go see?" , because it changes your life. I feel sure my first concert was Buddy Rich with Mr G and (our gifted student teacher drummer, percussionist)Jay Facenda and another student. We all went in Mr G's car (VWBug?); and it changed me. At Mendham Twp Middle school I would catch him practicing on the stage by himself. He gave me countless lessons there: I loved getting pulled out of classes for music. So many memories. And Summer jazz band at the Middle school was a trip. We met in the faculty room (where there was air conditioning) I rode my bicycle across Mendham with my drum sticks and music book!
MrG got us all ready to graduate musically. I remember playing Pomp and Circumstance a million times over feeling nostalgic for the first time. It wasn't just for leaving that school, it was for leaving MrG and the birth of an art form that would play on, in and through my life. Sorry to ramble on and on... thank you for sharing your dad, and papa, our MrG, with us students! Bless you and your wonderful family.
There is one thing I can do, though, is play music. Mr G made sure to develop that gift in me. Know that every time I play, Joseph Giardino is there and part of it. He truly lives on.

Dear Dawn and Family, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I remember him like yesterday. All of our times together with your Parents were amazing! They were like a bonus Mom and Dad to me. Your Dad believed in my musical ability way before I did. He was always so patient, encouraging, kind and scincere. His smile will be in my mind and heart always. He put a light in me that still burns today to be the best Musician and person that I can be. I am forever grateful. With Love and Sympathy, Anna Bianco Ciccarelli

So sorry for your loss. I am living out of state and sadly cannot pay my respects in person.
I was a private lesson student of Mr. G's in the 1980s. I still play the Bach Strad he helped me purchase and often think of him when practicing my dog-eared copy of Arban with his notes in the margins. He was truly a wonderful guy, who imparted to me a lasting love of trumpeting.

I had the distinct honor of getting to know Joe when Mary Ellen was struggling with her health. Joe's gentle and loving care for Mary Ellen was outstanding and a tribute to his entire family. When Mary Ellen died I was blessed to be able to participate in her funeral and was again moved by the entire family's strength, faith and gentle concern for all. It is with real sadness that I hear this news of Joe's death, but with tremendous hope, fueled by Joe's remarkable faith and integrity, that I celebrate his reunion with all who are dear to his heart that he now rejoins.
I regret that at this time I am dealing with multiple health concerns and may not be able to be present with the family at this sorrowful time, but you can be assured of my joining you in mourning the passing of this wonderful man. Fr. Dennis Crowley

To the family: My sympathies are extended at the passing of the man so many of his students referred to simply as, "Mr. G." He was the first of my three music teachers who inspired me to become a music teacher myself. Where he got the passion to work with middle school aged students, I don't know, but because of his energy and dedication, I eventually had a 39 year career teaching music. May there be many marvelous memories for family and friends to hold on to and hopefully comfort them in knowledge that Mr. G. really touched so many people throughout his life.
