Mary R Alvey 92, of Madison passed away on November 8, 2015. Born in Morristown, Mary resided in Madison for her entire life. Mary graduated from Drew University in 1945 with a degree in Psychology. But music was her passion. She began her career teaching piano at the Scarborough School of Music. Eventually she opened her own studio and continued to teach there until her recent illness and passing. She became a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the College of Saint Elizabeth, teaching piano at the school for 31 years. Mary was also a Choir Director. She began directing the Children’s Choir at the Madison Methodist Church while she was a student at Drew, and continued to do so for decades. She was also a member of the Morristown Women’s Club and Director of the Club’s Women’s Chorus for 35 years. Mary loved all of the arts. She and her husband George attended opera and theater, both locally and in Manhattan. She enjoyed painting, knitting, and beadwork. She spent much time with her family both in Madison and at her Summer home in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, C. George Alvey; and her devoted children, Sheryl A. Peters and her husband Ed of Pasadena, California, and David G. Alvey and his wife, Kris Koshak, of Harding Township. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Ian Peters and his wife Kelly Bixby Peters, Lucia Peters and her fiancée Anthony Hutain, Alexa Alvey and her fiancée Jonathan Flowers, and Rachel Alvey; and her adored great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Peters.
