Salvatore Patrick Luciano Madison’s Son Salvatore Patrick Luciano peacefully continued his journey on his next adventure, Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Born St. Patrick’s Day, 1929 in Morristown Memorial Hospital, it was fitting that he came full circle ending his earthly days almost 91 years later in the same institution. Funeral service will be held at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison on Monday, February 10 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 9 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ 07940. A proud son of The Rose City, Sal grew up with the love and support of a large extended family and many lifelong friends and neighbors. He attended St. Vincent Martyr Grammar School and served as an altar boy for the church. Sal was a member of Madison High School Graduating Class of 1947. He played football, basketball and baseball. Quick to admit that he did not graduate at the “top of his class”, his yearbook reveals his other talents: Best Male Athlete, Most School Spirit and Bradley Award winner for overall athletic accomplishment which is still awarded today. Sal finished his academic studies and played football at The Pennington School, New Jersey. Sal served during the Korean Conflict in the Army’s Heavy Artillery, setting directional course for the “Big Guns”. He rose to the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, Sal was stationed in Philadelphia protecting the Tacony Palmyra Bridge from attack by sundry, nefarious forces. While on leave his good fortune continued when he met his wife, Annemarie, at a dance at Brookline on the Boulevard. They married on July 4th 1953. A main stay on Madison’s Main Street for over 75 years, Sal began working for his father in Luciano’s Food Market after school. This was the training ground for his long, successful retail career. Alongside his father, mother and other family members Sal took great pride in serving valued customers in Madison, Chatham and the surrounding communities. After his father Pat retired, Sal struck out on his own launching The Locker Room, a young man’s clothing store in 1966. For almost 20 years Sal enjoyed outfitting countless young men for their major life events, school, camp, college and careers. His brother, Pat, later joined him as partner and together they expanded the business to another level dressing young men and adults in jeans to suits. Recognizing the changing needs in the community, in 1985 Sal once again evolved his retail presence in Madison establishing Prima on Main. Partnering with his daughter, Denise and later his son in law Mark Conmy, they continue the Luciano tradition of quality and personal service right up to today. Sal never wavered in his belief that a vibrant downtown was the centerpiece of a successful community. Sal generously gave his time and talents in support of varied causes that were dear to him. Over the years he enjoyed working with many organizations among them, Madison Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Huddle Club, EPOCH, Eva’s Kitchen, Friends of the Madison Shade Trees, Morris County Football Scholarship and Museum of Early Trades & Crafts. He held a special place in his heart for St. Vincent Martyr School and Church. Above all Sal defined his success by the love and success of his family. He was predeceased by his loving parents Pasquale and Hazel Luciano, in laws Michael and Helen Kessel, sister Jean Kennedy, Luciano, Ross, Lepre and Dante families; his sister and brother in law Helen and James Kain and many, many good friends and buddies. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Annemarie, loving children and spouses, Michele and Robert Faas, Patrick and Wendy, Denise and Mark Conmy, and John and Kimberly. Sal was blessed with 7 grandchildren Theodora, Kelly, Anna, Gabriella, Sarah, Michael and Thomas. Sal cherished the love of his sister, Mary, brother, Patrick, their spouses Allen Beaman and Eileen and his wonderful Beaman, Luciano, Kain and Pepe nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many cousins! In addition, Sal took pleasure in knowing and working with many people in support of his businesses, interests, his health, home and family, all of whom he called friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sal's memory may be made to Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps., ATTN: Treasurer, 29 Prospect Street, Madison, NJ 07940.
