It's 2024 and I'm not sure this message will ever get to Patti whose marriage to Peter my wife Penny and I attended many years ago. Every now and then I go on the web to see where colleagues from the past are living, what they are doing etc. I was very sad to read of Peter's passing. I first met Peter in Australia way back in 1994 when he was running an M &A Deal for Reynolds Metals as a VP at Chemical Bank. One year later, I relocated to NY from Australia to run the Mining Group in NY and Peter wound up working for me. Then we both got caught in the Chase merger in 1996 and Peter moved on to Solomon and I moved back to a Government job in Australia. Peter was very committed to his profession but never compromised his integrity, was approachable and popular with our most junior employees and the secretarial staff. I used to laugh that Peter was always the last person on the plane when we were flying off to see our mining clients, so much so that I started going to the airport ahead of him Yup, you guessed it. One time he missed a flight and couldn't get to the client until half a day later! I hope Patti sees this note; Penny sends her best as well. Mike Clarey, Newcastle, Australia.

I worked with Peter at SCB. In the obituary it says he was an "uncommonly good man" - I can not say it any better than that. The world is a little poorer without Peter.

Peter was a great individual. In the interactions I was lucky enough to have with him at work he was always extremely diligent and professional with a unique presence that firmly guided all the relationships we collaborated on as a colleague. However, his subtle sense of humor always peaked through in most conversations and he would have a spin on recent events, work deliverables or usual facts of life in a way that only Peter would!
His warmth as a person came through, as almost without fail, he would always mention the hockey games with his daughters he had to plan around. His zeal made it clear how proud he was and how he loved his family sincerely.
It is a real loss to no longer have such a genuine person around us - we can only pray that the family finds strength and patience in this time of grief. His admirable traits remain an inspiration for those he left behind.
Warmest regards and deepest condolences

Dear Patti, Allie and Jen,
We are so saddened by your loss. Peter was an incredible person, loved by all. We have so many memories of him over the years--rooting the girls on at hockey games, traveling to hockey tournaments, camping, skiing, Super Bowl parties--and in all of the memories, what comes through is Peter's love for his wife Patti and his pride and joy in his two girls. Peter was always there for his family, and his love was obvious.
Our thoughts will continue to be with you during this difficult time. Love, Meagan, Shawn, McKenna, Jack, Drew

You were taken way too soon but I guess you were called to do even greater things. You were a truly great man with a big heart and a role model to many. I enjoyed our friendship and your infectious smile. I still remember getting lost going to the Holiday party with my daughter and you helped us find a way. The way you talked about your family, especially your daughters was unforgettable. You will be missed but not forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.

Olnowich family,
I only came to know Peter through work over the past 4 years, but the impression he left both professionally and personally was impactful. He was a consummate professional, always seeking to do the right thing and always bringing a laser focus – with a dash of humility and good humor – to the issues at hand. He equally struck me as a professional who was tough, but fair, with the team he led.
At the same time, his dedication to his family came through clearly during all of our professional interactions. Rare was a meeting where we didn’t hear about a planned trip to Buffalo to watch a hockey game, or a story about trips to NYC to watch the Macy’s Day Parade when his daughters were young, or other stories of a personal nature that showed how much his family meant to him.
My thoughts are with your family in this time of grief.
God’s blessings,
Jussi Sullivan

Very sad to learn of Peter’s passing. He was so well respected and close to all of us in the extended network teams that the loss just seems so personal. It was hard not to be slightly awe-struck by Peter’s intensity…in his friendships at work, in his commitments to his clients and in his passion for life. Always stoic, professional and matter of fact to the external, Peter reserved much warmth for his family and friends behind his trademark round-rimmed glasses that I had the privilege to experience a few times over meals in Singapore. I pray for all the strength to his most beloved family who meant all the world to him.
You will be dearly missed by all those that you touched, Peter. May you rest in eternal peace in the better place that you are in now.

I am saddened by Peter's passing. We spent numerous hours on the road together, late night/early morning phone calls, and many occasions where we could just talk about aspirations, family and life in general. When I travelled to the US last year, Peter went out of his way to drive me to different client meetings (some clients he didn't even cover!) so I had a full agenda. He was such a caring an thoughtful man. Not to mention fast! Fast driver, fast walker through airports...it was hard to keep up! But when it was time to talk, he slowed down, listened and asked great questions. I will miss you, my friend.

News of Peter’s passing today was a shock. I pray for his family. And I thank God for giving us - even for too short a time — such a beautiful person. Peter impressed me. As a client banker with an abundance of wisdom and intelligence but also with a heavy dose of simple (but sometimes lacking) humanity. As a mentor or volunteer, Peter distinguished himself by using his own instincts and a passion to help others. Finally, as a leader who could organize and focus : Peter knew what to say and how to get things done. It was my private time with Peter, however, which I reflect on the most. Despite an unbelievable amount of travel, he always “steered toward home”. Not just the pride he had in his girls and the importance of family but it was the smile he had along the conversation’s journey that was infectious. And joyful. So I will miss you Peter. But the world is a far better place with you having touched so many of us. Thank you. May God bless.

It was an honor to work with Peter for years. His professionalism, wit and affinity has impressed us very much, and made the positive impact to the business too. There was one time, Peter came to the South China, after we met a client in Shenzhen, we head to Guangzhou (another city in the South, 2 hours away by car) for another client meeting. And we did a quick lunch for the Cantonese food, and Peter seemed to like it very much. Peter will be missed and his spirit will carry on with us.

Peter was a wonderful colleague, exemplary professional, caring family man and a lovely human being who will be missed by all who knows him.
I recall fondly the many taxi rides we had when he was in Shanghai visiting clients and listening to his stories from his travels across the globe. From navigating through the protest in HK to refusing to bribe a custom officer to get his passport back in Africa, he had seen it all. You know that he really enjoyed his job as he was a free-spirited man and always wanting to learn more about the world. It was his travels that many of us around the world were blessed to get a touch of him.
May his family be comforted that he had left us but his memories will live long and well by everyone across the globe and by all whom he had touched.
"Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest" Matt 11:28
Rest well, Peter....

Peter was the first real mentor I had in the US. He opened the door for my banking experience back in the Salomon Smith Barney days circa 2001. He hired me as a summer intern and that paved the way for my whole career.
We recently reconnected at a Simon School video conference and it was so good to see him after all these years.
I am deeply honored and blessed to have known Peter. He was such a meaningful, positive influence in so many people's lives, and I will forever remember him as my mentor.

Peter was a consummate professional. My abiding memory of Peter : He always used to be at his desk very early and was one of the last to leave the office more often than not. An out and out karmic , who just lived work while in the office. Didnt notice him slack one bit even as we now know he was suffering within ..
Also, Peter was a mentor to us junior credit analysts , I have reached out to him on so many occasions for guidance on credit , he has shared so much of his experience and knowledge. draft credit memos used to come back with red marks / track changes. It was sometimes annoying at that point :), but in retrospect all of them changes were important for our learning curve..
I wish Peters family strength and courage to tide through this tough time .
Thank You Peter , returned to God too soon...

In your time of grief, I wish to share my thoughts and reflections. I have known Peter for more than 23 years in my work at the Simon Business School, and remained in touch with him through my time at Syracuse University. Peter was a giving man who cared about the people around him, and invested in those he cared about most.
He loved you all deeply. He spoke so kindly of the closeness of your family, and was so committed to the achievements of his daughters. He always wanted what was best for each of you.
In addition, there is a community of Simon folks who share your grief. Several of the professionals whom he mentored send their condolences to you.
