Jim, aka to me as “Dr Hanrahan” since he called everyone on his staff at Bartech in that manner. He was a fantastic individual to work for, and missed by all that had the privilege to know him. RIP Dr H.

The Hanrahan family is in my prayers, especially this weekend, as you celebrate his life among your friends and loved ones. I had the privilege of working with Jim at TalentWave. Not only was he a tremendously capable and approachable leader, he was also a likable human being … always pausing to say ‘hi’ and make time for the water-cooler banter. It was one those casual conversations where Jim and I discovered we shared a common interest in baseball, since both of our sons were deeply invested in the game. He always took the time to inquire how my (then) high-school son was doing in the college recruitment journey for baseball, and his interest and advice was meaningful to me since his own son had played in college too. It was fun to share stories together and I know how deeply proud he was of his children and how much he loved his family. This Earth lost a great man with Jim’s passing. He touched many hearts and leaves a legacy of kindness, curiosity, leadership, philanthropy, friendship, and love for the many, many people who knew him. It’s clear from the beautiful memories shared on this site, how dearly he was loved. I offer my most sincere condolences to Jim’s family. Romans 8:18 reminds us, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." We know that Jim is experiencing the joy of Heaven, and I pray your pain and sorrow will be replaced by healing and peace over time too. Blessing to you all.

Daphne, Cari and Scott--what a joy it was to have known Jim and your Dad. He always had a smile, a joke or words of support in difficult times. His energy and love of running, skiing and all things outdoors was and will always be an inspiration for me. What a fighter! Sending you all my heart and much love. We've all lost a very special person--I know Jim is looking down on you and will always be with you in spirit. God bless you all. Missy Elias

Daphne and kids,
I was sorry to hear, grieved, at the news of Jim's loss in his fight with cancer. Yet I am so grateful for that last contact with Jim when I sent the picture of the two of us at the Crystal Lake Tri. I believe that was the first for both of us.
Jim always did things right, to his highest standard, and in my experience was never satisfied with less. From getting down that impossibly icy mogul field (do you remember that morning in Colorado), to Beer and Peanuts relay training (we held the record for several years under his leadership), to getting the "work" done--Jim was only satisfied with the best, the right way.
So if these memories are so vivid to me from years ago I can only imagine the trail of impact that Jim has left on others over the forty odd years since we were together.
Daphne, I pray the God of all Comfort is present with you and the family as you walk this hard road of grief
Roger Peer (and Carla)

I had the great good fortune to have grown up with Jimmy, as he was known on Ethan Allen Lane. My first memory of Jimmy was of him running down our very steep driveway with a full-length leg brace. I remember thinking how fast he was, even with that encumbrance. Nothing could stop him from playing in any game we concocted. He could run around the bases we'd set up for our numerous games of softball or kickball (fire-tennis-ball baseball came much later) and always seemed to score the much needed run to clinch a win. Little did I know that when the brace came off, Jimmy would be one of the fastest runners around, certainly leaving many of us in the dust when it came time for a footrace. Jimmy had a knack for winning and therefore I always hoped to be picked for his team (he was often one of the captains). He was a competitor bar none. Jimmy won at life, too. He lived it to the fullest, loved with his whole heart and was also loved by so many people from all phases of his life. Some may say he was lucky but I know that he worked hard to be his very best for all of us. I will miss Jimmy, but I will always think of him with a big smile on my face because he features in so many of my fondest memories. God bless all of his family.

My deepest condolences go to Jim's family and indeed anyone who was close to him. He was a rock steady inspiration to everyone who spent any time with him. Never losing his head or feeling sorry for himself or his team - the only way he knew to do things was to just keep on keeping on. He was a good friend and teammate, and a true leader. (The attached photo is of Captain Jim Hanrahan and his Pike softball team - university champs in 1978).

Over the past several years, the Madison “Hanraclan” became our surrogate Colorado family from back East. Perry was fortunate to meet Jim way back in the summer of 1981 at Chicago Booth soon after he and Daphne started dating. Friendship was solidified on a famous road trip to Milwaukee that summer among many other escapades the ensuing year. Skip ahead some decades, and our friendship resumed following a couple of Chicago Booth graduate school reunions. Then Jim and Daph became regulars in Colorado particularly after Cari moved here. We spent many blissful days of skiing, hiking, biking and fine/fun dining together especially when Chris and Ann were kind enough to offer their Steamboat Springs condominium. The icing on the cake happened when Jim “moved” to Denver metro to pursue a private equity gig there a few years ago. We all reveled in the extra time Jim had in the state, Daphne’s many visits, and getting to know (and love) Cari and Matt.
So true, everything the family composed in Jim’s remembrance. Jim was a loving, devoted husband and father to Daphne, Cari and Scott. He was a considerate, loyal, kind-hearted soul and friend, never lacking in energy, exuberance and diligence. We are truly grateful for the many happy times. We so enjoyed Jim’s love of good food - especially Coquilles St. Jacques! – often followed up with a Bailey’s. We’ll always remember his face lighting up on a powder skiing day as he prepared to zoom down the mountain, in perfect athletic form. We’ll never forget him disappearing off into gladed runs on the ski slope, just because they were there and he had to check them out… regardless of whether anyone followed him. This time, the tree ski run is eternal. Thanks for everything Jim, we love you dearly.

My heart is with the Hanrahan family and I can only imagine the depth of their grief. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to work with Jim at CDI and ultimately for him ... I wish it had been longer for sure! I did not know him well until my team in Europe got moved under him. I only worked with him for a few months but he was incredibly supportive and lots of fun. I especially remember a trip to San Francisco with Jim and another colleague! Working with him and for him is a special memory for me. Jim was the kind of guy whose presence remains with you and I know that will help his family to continue to thrive in his absence. Kay Colson

I was also a fraternity brother of Jim’s — a year behind him at Cornell. He was one of the reasons that I joined Pi Kappa Alpha. Jim was someone that I always looked up to. He was a true leader — whether as a team captain or as our house president, Jim was a natural for the role. I valued his judgement and his friendship. I am sure that his passing has created a huge vacuum around him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. Rest In Peace Jim.

Jim and I were fraternity brothers. His dedication and energy were legendary in our House, and with Jim, it was the real thing. We trusted him completely, and elected him as our president. It sounds corny, but you just felt better with Jim around. He was funny, brilliant, and completely, absolutely trustworthy. Plus, he was a terrific athlete. This is my favorite line from his obituary: "If physical activity were the magical elixir for longevity, Jim would have lived forever." He was angular and vibrated with energy, but it was focused energy, and he always used it for good. I am very sorry, Hanraclan, and I hope your memories of this extraordinary man nourish you in difficult times.

I found a photo of us all at a restaurant in Muncie, Indiana. I remember when he came to visit here. I was so excited I couldn’t sleep. I worried he would find our small life boring because he had such an accomplished business career. But Jim was always gracious, genuinely appreciating all sorts of people and all sorts of places. His remarkable intelligence was always evident, but subtly expressed. He would chat with Abel about being a history professor, and then he would talk with me about something he liked about my art. His work kept him so busy, but somehow he would appear at the most opportune times. He surprised us once by showing up with Daphne at my first Trade Show in New York, I was so nervous, but they made it fun. And to my surprise I made a lucrative deal. And recently, when I was struggling to survive as well, he gave me courage and helped me to hold on. Even in his own suffering he still cared about the rest of us. Abel and I are so grateful for all the happiness he added to our lives: the family cookouts, trips to the beach, the parties, the games, the conversations. And especially we are grateful that he remained our friend through the great times and the hardest of times.

We enjoyed family ski vacations at our Stratton condo, I saw Jim at the MEF races, but I think I got to know him best in the last few months, when I was included on a family walk to town. Jim was thin but striding along, and the conversation was around his battle against his cancer. There was a vigor and focus in his words, and not a note of resignation. For a man in such circumstances, he seemed to be so forward-focused--enjoying the walk, sharing a chuckle, and planning how to be most effective in the next steps in his medical journey. I remember thinking of him as a lion.
I am sure that he leaves many like me, with both sadness and inspiration.

To the Hanraclan, especially Daphne, Cari, Matt, Scott and Laura – my sincere condolences on the passing of Jim. I had the exceptional privilege of working closely with Jim over the last several years on the leader team at TalentWave. Jim was an amazing, hardworking, funny, diplomatic, kindhearted, effective professional. One of the many abiding memories I have of Jim is him announcing the quarterly financial results to the company in the first year of COVID, just before Halloween, and doing so in his very frightening monster mask (over which he put his glasses because he couldn't read the results without them). I doubt anyone grasped any of the financials in that meeting, we were all laughing so hard. Beyond all that, it was clear that his dedication, love, pride and joy was firmly grounded in his family. He was so proud of you all. He is so deeply missed. Catherine Chidyausiku

Jim was one of the funniest and hardest-working engineers of our group at UOP. I still laugh when I think of Halloween - all in costume - in Chicago (1980) when he pulled out his wallet and offered Daphne (who he had JUST met) a few dollars for her “services”. We all just laughed and laughed and look what the future brought! Jim, never to be forgotten. :’)

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jim. I will forever cherish the fond memories of working with Jim or “Dr. Hanrahan”, as we referred to him over the years as WAVEMAKERS. You knew you got it right once Jim gave you the Dr. Title when he spoke to and of you. I can still hear “Get it Dr. Money” as we discussed financials across our clients. He will forever be remembered for his amazing Halloween costumes, comedic relief while delivering financials referencing our “swim lanes”, literally working effortlessly to ensure we could bounce back after COVID hit our organization and his compassion and empathy during a very challenging 6 months with a particular client. Jim went as far as purchasing (as an internal joke) an emotional support Minnie, which I now cherish more than ever. He was truly ONE OF THE GOOD ONES. I am honored to have known him and worked with him. Soar high my friend! Love Brandy. AKA Dr. Money!
