Obituary of Marcella Wright-Nelson

Please share a memory of Marcella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marcella Wright-Nelson (Marcy) was born on April 10, 1952, in Morristown, NJ. She was the first of three children born to Myrtle and George Wright. As the first, she proudly called herself ‘the Eldest’, an expression she shared with her late cousin Patty, the eldest child in her family.

Marcy loved children and children loved her back! She worked at Shepard High School and in the Morris, Dover, Lincoln Park School Districts before retiring from the Cedar Grove School District in 2018.

Marcy lived most of her life in NJ but also resided in DC during her college years and followed that by living with Aunt Lenora. On her return back to Morristown, a neighborhood man driving a GTO caught her eye. After an introduction from a colleague, George Nelson and Marcy courted awhile, married in July 1988, and were inseparable until he passed in 2018.

Marcy embodied independence.  She traveled frequently and especially loved to cook, try new recipes, and share with family and friends. Marcy was loved by all who knew her. Her smile and laugh lit up the room but the best was when she responded, ‘Ain’t that something?’

Marcella is survived by her mother (Myrtle); her sister and brother (Elaine and Ronnie); her nephew, his wife, and son (BJ, Lucy, and BJ), her nieces (Tiyanna and Kimberly), Kimberly’s children (Elias, Safiyyah, and Hasson), and many relatives and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment of ashes will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown.
