Obituary of Gail A. Decker

Gail Anne Decker died peacefully on October 12, 2022 while surrounded by loving family at Morristown Medical Center in the Women’s Association of Morristown Palliative Care Unit.  She is survived by her husband, Thomas Decker, her son, Christopher Decker, her daughter, Alexandra Decker, her son in law, Travis Palmer and her rescue dog, Apple.

Gail was born to Gloria and Jerome Pascal in Glen Ridge, NJ and grew up in Upper Montclair where she attended Lacordaire Academy.  Gail later went on to earn her degree studying art history at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. Gail married Thomas Decker on December 10, 1983 before moving to their beautiful home in Morristown, NJ.

In the 1990s, Gail began her dedication to volunteering with the Women’s Association of Morristown. On the art committee, she began projects that included lining the hallways of Morristown Medical Center with curated displays of art and photography to help brighten the lives of those who passed through.  She further developed her service through her work with the Bargain Box where she was affectionately noted to have a style of silent leadership and always willing to help anyone at any time and with Apple frequently along for the ride.  Gail was especially proud of the work that she did with the Mansions in May projects.  She was always in her best spirits when developing strong friendships while working joyously on the landscape and interior designs that would resurrect beauty to structures and grounds that had long been forgotten or overlooked.

Gail had the innate ability to truly appreciate the beauty in people and places in ways that not many are capable.  Her happiness was remarkably transmissible whether in her presence or on long distance phone calls and those who had the opportunity to experience either may be able to appreciate the ways in which Gail made their lives just a little bit more beautiful.

There will be a wake at Burroughs, Kohr, and Dangler Funeral Home in Madison, NJ from 4-8pm on Tuesday October 18, 2022 and the funeral will be held at St. Thomas More Church in Convent Station, NJ at 10am on Wednesday October 19, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family is recommending a donation in Gail Decker’s name to the Women’s Association of Morristown Medical Center https://www.wammc.org/donate.
