Obituary of Paul P. McElgunn

Paul P. McElgunn, 91, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at his home on December 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 31, 1931 to Thomas and Bridget McElgunn, Paul was the youngest of four children.

In his youth he attended Seton Hall Prep and caddied at Canoe Brook Country Club. When it was time for college the members of Canoe Brook awarded him one of the first caddie scholarships in New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University and prepared to become a military officer via the Reserve Officers Training Program (ROTC). After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for two years.

He started his career at Allstate Insurance, but his life really began when he married the love of his life, Marie Mooney. They bought their first home in Parsippany, but with their young family growing they knew they needed more space. In 1965 they moved to Florham Park which marked the beginning of 50+ years of memories, laughs, and July 4^th celebrations.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Marie McElgunn, his five children, John McElgunn (Pam), Michael McElgunn (Karen), Theresa Hinton (Todd), Nora Leydon (Dan) and Jim McElgunn (Amy). He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren Kevin, Katie, Paul; Tommy, Matthew, Mark, Brian, Connor, Kaleigh, Amanda, Courtney, Shawn, Shannon, Jack, and Ryan.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park.
