Obituary of Christine Anne Murray

Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Christine Anne Murray of Andover, NJ, died on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in Morristown Medical Center after a courageous 3-year fight with cancer. She was 72 years old.

Born in Orange, Christine was the daughter of the late F. Newton Wells, III and Jean Marie Wells. After growing up in West Caldwell and East Hanover, she lived in Nutley. She was a longtime resident of Denville before moving to Andover. 

Christine graduated from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in 1971 and ministered to thousands of newborns as a compassionate Labor and Delivery nurse at Mountainside Hospital. She delivered babies of babies that she delivered.

She was very involved in her children’s lives, serving as a Denville Recreation Girls Softball Coach, a Junior League bowling coach at Rockaway Lanes, and a devoted Girl Scout leader. In her free time, she was an all-around games player and enjoyed bowling, softball, bingo, pinochle, canasta and many more.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Thomas J. Murray, III, her devoted children, Megan Murray and her partner Keith Lefurge, Kaitlin Porfido and her husband Paul Porfido, her son, Sean  Murray, and cherished grandchildren, Riley and Emerson Lefurge, and Mackenzie and Michael Porfido, as well as her baby brother, Rev. Peter VB Wells. Christine is predeceased by her brother Frank N. ("Skipper") Wells, IV.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ  07940.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of the Valley, 630 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ. (*Please meet directly at Church*).  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Saint Jude’s Hospital (www.stjude.org), Shriners Hospital (www.shrinerschildren.org) or any foundation to assist animals.
