Obituary of Carmela A. Haitmanek

Carmela Haitmanek, (nee Biank), 88, passed away on August 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Nesquehoning, PA, to Anthony and Jacqueline (Jane) Biank. She lived in Newark, NJ, prior to moving to Florham Park 63 years ago.

Carmela graduated from West Side High School, Newark, NJ, in 1953. She worked as a Floor Manager for Prudential Insurance Company, Newark for 15 years until her retirement in 1967.

She was a member of Holy Family Church and belonged to the Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Florham Park Seniors and often went on trips with them. She attended all of their BBQ’s and picnics. She loved socializing with all of the other seniors.

Carmela was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her cherished family and friends. She loved throwing parties for all to come. She loved cooking and baking and was well known for her Christmas cookies which she brought everywhere.

When Carmela became a grandmother/Nana, her grandkids were everything to her. She looked forward to their visits and sleepovers. She jumped on every opportunity to babysit and spoil them. She loved teaching them to cook and loved it when the grandkids baked with her.

Carmela was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Louis F. Haitmanek, in 2022. She is survived by her loving children, Louis A. Haitmanek, Florham Park, NJ, and Jacquelyn Dorn and her husband, Christopher of Roxbury, NJ. She is also survived by her four brothers, Frank Biank, George Biank, Joseph Biank, and Vincent Biank, as well as her cherished grandson, Jacob Haitmanek, and cherished granddaughters, Casey, Fiona, Amelia, and Gabriella, and many nieces and nephews and loving family members. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Giorgiami, in 2018.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 5-8pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10am at Holy Family Church, Florham Park. Inurnment of Ashes will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
