Grandma was an integral part of my happy childhood. I loved having her track my cousins and my height on her pantry doorway. Her love is free giving without any expectations of return. Whenever I talk about her you can bet I'm matching the smile she always gave me.

I was fortunate to have been able to visit Irene in the hospital last week and share a last goodbye. She was feisty yet loving. So typical. Larry, Lynn, Marty, Jen and Matt your Mom was the best but I want you to know she honed her parenting skills on me! I was so lucky, as you all have been to benefit from her love and guidance. Her values were clear and steadfast. Her marriage to your Dad was bittersweet for me. I thought I was losing her but then I gained all of you. Irene went to work for the "phone" company after high school. When I wanted to talk to her I would pick up the phone and she would say "number please" and I would say it's me I just want to say hello. In retrospect I was a pest but she never made me feel that way. Irene was always interested in new adventures and to Bill's discomfort she kayaked with me on Newark Pond not too many years ago, participated in the Senior Games biking event one year and even tried to ski in our driveway.
