Obituary of Janet Mae Bruns
Janet Mae Witzler Bruns
February 1, 1935 – September 13, 2024
Janet Bruns, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, passed away peacefully at Morristown Medical Center with her family at her bedside after a short illness. She always loved when her family was together.
Janet is predeceased by her loving husband, Theodore R. Bruns Jr., with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage. They raised four children, Sharon Casendino (Ralph), Robin Galton (Landon), Theodore R. Bruns III (Susan), and Jennifer McCann (Michael). Devoted grandmother to RJ, Brian, Vincent, Christina, Amanda, Jackie, Timothy, AJ, Zach and Taylor. She had six great grandchildren, Cameron, Brianna, Brendan, Luke, Caleb and Santino.
She always stayed in touch with her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Janet was also predeceased by her sister, Virginia Kadri, her brother James Witzler, and her parents Howard and Marquerite Witzler.
Janet was born in Summit, NJ. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1953 before attending Berkley Secretarial School. She retired from Harding Township School and then went to Mendham Country day school where she worked as a teacher’s aide. More recently she worked as a Crossing Guard in Madison, NJ until February 2024. She loved seeing all the children and families every day. She became an avid reader four years ago. She has read close to 200 books since then. She loved knitting and crocheting, as well as strawberry milkshakes from Taylor’s ice cream in Chester, NJ. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Vernon, NJ where she served as a deacon and elder for many years. She was also a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held at Burroughs, Kohr and Dangler Funeral Home in Madison, NJ on Wednesday, September 18th from 5-8pm.
Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 19th at The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, Lee’s Hill Road, New Vernon NJ.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet’s name to the Women’s Auxiliary at the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Person’s In Need Fund (PIN Fund) at The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, NJ.
